How to fall asleep faster at night was one of my latest Google searches. It’s so hard for me to relax and say goodbye to the day. Honestly… Am I the only one who starts thinking about the mysteries of the world at night? Or about, Why the future is so scary? Last night I spent 2 hours trying to read the the palm of my hands. And honestly… it was harder than I expected (lol). My brain gets really active during the night. My best ideas come that time of the day! But it’s getting harder and harder to wake up the next morning.
I made this list based on what worked for me in the past and recently. I have to say that these tricks to fall asleep faster don’t always work, but they help to relax my body.
These 3 ways are from different sources: the internet, my aunt (she’s a dowsing professional), and grandma. I know, right? What a group of experts!
The 4-7-8 breathing exercise
The purpose of this method is to relax your body by increasing the amount of oxygen in your blood stream, slowing your heart rate, and releasing more carbon dioxide from the lungs. According to Dr. Weil, here’s how you do it:
1. Place the tip of your tongue against the ridge of tissue just behind your upper front teeth, and keep it there through the entire exercise.
2. Exhale completely through your mouth, making a whoosh sound.
3. Close your mouth and inhale quietly through your nose to a mental count of four.
4. Hold your breath for a count of seven.
5. Exhale completely through your mouth, making a whoosh sound to a count of eight.
6. Repeat the cycle three more times for a total of four breaths.
This was the first solution that came up. And several websites had this breathing exercise on their lists, so it must be popular. I was really surprised the first day I tried it. It did work! My body relaxed instantly and I felt so tired and ready to sleep that I thought I found the solution to all my problems. The second night didn’t work that well, but partly because I was thinking in other things. Just remember: don’t concentrate counting the seconds. It will distract you from your goal.
Aunt’s Breathing Exercise
My aunt sent me a long paragraph telling me how to breath in moments of stress and when I need to calm. That’s why this breathing exercise comes handy when you want to fall asleep faster! It will relax you and put your mind at ease. She said: To breathe is to live, and breathe well is to live well. This is what you have to do:
1. Lie on your right side.
2. With your pillow or hand apply pressure lightly on your right nostril.
3. Breath only with your left nostril.
This will activate the mechanisms of relaxation and mental calm that will help you to fall asleep.
Orange flower water
My grandma, is the typical grandma that always has homemade remedies and natural solutions for all your sicknesses. She will tell me to do the most random and weird thing that, according to her, will cure me immediately. I trust, believing more that her love will make me feel better.
In this case, she suggested me to drink Agua de Azahar, which is a drink made of the orange flowers. The bottle I have contains: orange flower extract, nipazol, and purified water. But in general Orange flower water has a calming effects. I couldn’t find the one I have but I also read somewhere else that you can put some drops of this essence on your pillow and it can work too!
I hope these tips help you to fall asleep faster at night! Leave your phone in the drawer, relax your body and clear your mind. I know there are many things to do the next day. Don’t worry now. It’s time to rest!
Have a nice weekend 🙂
