Happy Monday, lovelies! Today on the blog I’m starting a new series: Tasting the Culture. And today: the Completo Italiano. In this series, I’ll be talking about the typical foods of the places I’ll go. Food is something that can represent a whole country and culture. For example, when you think about Mexico, I’m sure it comes to your mind their food, like tacos or nachos. The same happens with Italy, China, Japan, and many more.
It always happens when people travel. The first thing everyone wants to do is to try the typical food of the place they are visiting. Why? Because it’s something that is very representative of every country or city. So in these posts, I’ll be bringing a little bit of the culture of each place I’ll go, to you.
Like I’ve said before, I’m half Chilean and half Peruvian. So on the first posts, I’ll be writing about the foods I grew up with. Especially Peruvian food. I’m going to Peru soon. And I can’t wait to introduce you to the best cook in the world: my grandma. She’s amazing and has the best recipes.
So let’s start with the first typical Chilean food on the blog: Completo Italiano (Italian Hot Dog).
Why Italian? Simply because the ingredients we use to make the Italian Hot Dog have the colors of the Italian flag. Creative, right? You can definitely laugh here. And we don’t only have the Italian hot dog. We also have the Italian sandwich, Italian burger, and similar variations. If there’s something we are crazy about, are avocados. We find any opportunity to put them into something.
Ingredients for the Completo Italiano
- Hot dogs
- Hot dogs buns
- Ketchup (optional)
After smashing the avocados, cutting the tomatoes into squares, and cooking the hot dogs. You can start putting together your Completo Italiano. You can put the ingredients the way you want. But a common way to do is: bun, hot dog, tomato, avocado, mayonnaise. And ketchup if you want. Some people (like my sister) like it that way. I’m not a fan of ketchup, so I didn’t put it in mine.
As you can see it’s very simple to make. Just a few minutes and you will have a meal ready. People that comes to Chile always try this, because is something that Chileans love. And if you really want a bite of our culture. You can start with this.
You can read more about the Completo Italiano here.
So what do you think about this new series? Do you think you would like our way to make hot dogs? Let me know in the comments!
