What kind of Chilean would I be if I don’t try to convince you to visit my beautiful country? Not a good one, for sure! Chile is a long country with a diverse geography. Which means we get to enjoy different landscapes in just one country. From beaches to mountains. And from deserts to big cities. So today I’ll show you 7 reasons to visit Chile. Beautiful reasons to visit Chile! Are you looking a place for your next adventure? I can give you some ideas! After looking at these pictures you will want to catch a flight to South America right away.
And if you want some help to get cheaper tickets to come to South America. I can help you with that too! Just click here and you will read some useful tips.
1. Santiago de Chile
Let’s start with Chile’s capital. My beautiful city. I love Santiago for many reasons. Right now, because I can see the magnificent Andes mountains covered in white. And let me tell you. That’s a breathtaking view (especially after it rains!). As a big city, where at least 4 million people live, sometimes it feels too saturated. Rush hours are a nightmare and the contamination can get really bad. But besides the bad things, I’m really happy I got the chance to live in this city.
So what you can do in Santiago? Many things! From hiking in any of the mountains that surround the city. To make a tour in a vineyard. Many can agree or disagree with this. But we do have the best wines in the world! Here would come my dad with his wisdom saying: “The best wine, is the one you like the most” Can’t argue with that.
2. Easter Island
One of the reasons to visit Chile is the Easter Island, or Rapa Nui (in their native language). You might know those guys in the picture. They are statues called Moai. And is still a mystery how they got there since they are very heavy. The island is full of culture and beautiful landscapes. It’s not like an island in the Caribbean, but it has many things to offer.
Their dances and rituals are fun to watch. And listening to their old legends is very interesting! And as a World Heritage Site is a must see.
BREATH. TAKING. That’s how I would describe Torres del Paine in the very south of Chile. Nature at its best! Definitely one of the places I want to visit soon.
It is a little tricky to get there. First, you need to get to Santiago, then take an airplane to Punta Arenas. After that, you have to take a bus or a rented car to Puerto Natales. And from there, keep driving to Torres del Paine National Park. So you should be open to adventure to go to this place.
As another recommendation. You might not want to go during the winter time (June – August). Since the weather gets cold and unstable. But some people say it looks way better.
Am I starting to convince you with these reasons to visit Chile? I hope so!
We have the aridest place on earth! How crazy is that? The Atacama desert is located in the north of Chile. And to get there, you need to go to the San Pedro village. And from there you can visit the most touristic places, like the Valley of Mars and Cejar Lagoon.
Again, is a great place to go if you are an adventurer. Some of the activities to do there: trekking, climbing archeological sightings, amateur astronomy (the Atacama desert has one of the clearest skies in the world. Making it perfect for astronomers), and more. Also, have in mind the altitude of San Pedro. You might need some a brief period of acclimatization.
And I have to mention this. You can see wild llamas there! Are the cute llamas and adventure good reasons to visit Chile?
Valparaiso is the second largest city and the most important seaport in Chile. And also a World Heritage Site. It is located near Santiago. So is easy to get there from the capital. This is what I would call a very Instagrammable place. Full of murals and cute cafes. Some people would say Valparaiso is a “Little San Francisco”. I can see why, with the hills and trolleybuses. But they aren’t really that similar.
One of the main attractions in the city is Cerro Alegre, where most of the houses are painted with bright colors and artists get together to create.
6. San Rafael Lake
Again… we are back to the south of Chile. Which in my opinion has the best landscapes. This lagoon was formed by the retreat of the San Rafael Glacier. Being that the main attraction of the place.
There are many ships and cruises (with different price ranges) that will take you to get a closer look to the glacier. And where you will see ice falling into the lagoon.
7. Marble Caves – Puerto Rio Tranquilo
How beautiful this looks? It’s amazing how nature can create places like this. The Marble Caves (or Cuevas de Marmol in Spanish) were created thanks to the erosion and light. They turned geological formations into colorful sculptures.
The only way to get there is by boat. And to have a better view of the caves you should go during the Summer (November – March). Also, the color of the marble changes depending on the level of the water and the time of the year.
