Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups whole wheat flour (coconut flour even better!)
  • 1 cup quick-cook oats
  • 0.5 cup (around 8 tablespoons) all natural peanut butter (if you don’t have access to that kind, just make sure that it doesn’t contain xylitol.)
  • 0.5 cup unsweetened organic applesauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup olive oil or coconut oil

Note: My gingerbread man cookie cutter is 3″ and with that one I was able to bake around 15 Christmas cookies for dogs.

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine all ingredients well (except the olive oil). It can be hard to do with the peanut butter, so use a fork or your hands.
  3. If the dough is too loose and crumbly, you can add a 1/4 cup olive oil or coconut oil at this point.
  4. You can knead the dough on a lightly floured surface; but since you added oil, you don’t need to flour your workspace.
  5. Use a rolling pin to roll the dough to about 1/4 inch thick and then cut into shapes with cookie cutters. You can use different cookie cutters, but in my case I only used a gingerbread man.
  6. Place cookies on baking sheet.
  7. Bake in preheated over for approximately 20 minutes or until lightly browned.
  8. Let cool and then serve.

Note: These mini cookie cutters from Target are $2.89 and are the perfect size for homemade Christmas cookies for dogs! Especially if you have a small dog.
